Sustainable alternative fuels for this lifting equipment are emerging, including products marketed by Berca Mandiri Perkasa, as Hananto Wahono, Section Head of PT Berca Mandiri Perkasa told Equipment Indonesia on the sidelines of the Mining Indonesia 2022 event in Jakarta in September.
The forklift brands that PT Berca Mandiri Perkasa handles are Mitsubishi, Nichiyu, MLift, Hand Pallet and BYD Forklift. Hananto said, Berca provides a complete solution to meet the forklift needs of customers. This can be seen from the variety of forklift brands and models that the company displays.
Explaining the development of fuel types for forklifts available in the market today, Hananto mentioned several types of fuel for forklifts, namely diesel, gasoline, gasoline plus LPG, and electric, which consists of Lead-acid batteries and lithium batteries. “In the last 20 years, the forklift fuel trend has shifted from diesel to gasoline and LPG, then since 2010 it has moved to electric until now,” said Hananto.
He added that lead-acid electric batteries can be used for one shift or 8 hours at full load, and charged for 8 hours. Lithium batteries, on the other hand, can be charged at any time with fast charging of about 2.5 hours. Lithium batteries do not require spare batteries as they can be recharged at any time. If you are resting, this unit can be charged. While forklifts with lead-acid batteries require a backup battery if the unit still has to work.
During this exhibition, Berca displayed all its range of forklift products from gasoline plus LPG forklifts, diesel forklifts, lithium battery electric forklifts, and lead-acid electric batteries.
According to Hananto, electric forklifts are widely absorbed in the food & beverage, chemical, pharmaceutical (medicine) sectors and many more. Meanwhile, diesel-powered forklifts, especially large ones, are increasingly entering the port area for heavy lifting, paper mills to lift paper rolls. While forklifts that use gasoline plus LPG fuel are widely used in flour mills, sugar mills and beverage factories.
Explaining the lifting capacity of Beca’s various forklifts, Hananto said, for diesel ones, the range is from 1.5 to 3.5 tonnes, 3.5 to 5 tonnes, 7 to 10 tonnes, 10 to 23 tonnes. The electrically powered ones range from 1 to 3.5 tonnes, and the highest is 6 tonnes for now. Nichiyu forklifts are only up to 5 tonnes. While BYD Forklifts have produced up to 6 tonnes.
For attachments, in addition to factory-made ones, Berca through PT Cipta Andalan Teknindo – a subsidiary of PT Altrak 1978 – can produce attachments locally. “For non-mechanical ones, these products can use attachments made by PT Cipta Andalan Teknindo which are modifications, such as making the fork longer or making covers for the fork and fork shoe. The cab can also be localised and made according to customer requests. However, attachments for mechanical and electrical functions have their own technology, so they have to use factory-made ones,” said Hananto.
